GOT7 drops third studio album ‘Present: YOU’
SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Yonhap) — K-pop boy band GOT7 on Monday released their third full-length album “Present: YOU,” a record packed with solo tracks by each of the seven members as well as the single “Lullaby” in four different languages.
“The title song, ‘Lullaby,’ is faster in tempo compared with (our previous song) ‘Look’ and divided into more beats, with sweet lyrics saying ‘all you say comes to me as a lullaby,’” team leader JB said during a news conference in Seoul ahead of the album’s official release in the evening.
Their management agency JYP Entertainment said the song’s genre is “urban deep house” with dreamy sync sounds.
The title track comes in four different languages — Korean, Chinese, English and Spanish — as the five-year-old K-pop band tries to reach out to a wider audience across the globe.
The fresh endeavor followed the completion of GOT7′s acclaimed world tour earlier this year, which took the seven members to 17 major cities in Asia, Europe and North and South America.
“We started producing the new album while we were on the tour, which let us feel the love and care our fans across the world give to us,” member Jinyoung said.
“They love songs in Korean, but we thought it important to communicate with them in their own languages,” he said.
The band incudes three non-Korean members — Jackson from Hong Kong, BamBam from Thailand and Mark from the United States — making it easier for the members to record in all the foreign languages but Spanish.
“Spanish was the most difficult language. So we had to check every pronunciation with our (assistant) and pay great care,” leader JB noted.
Member Yugyeom said the latest world tour helped refresh his commitment to K-pop as well as his band.
“It was marvelous that (GOT7) is loved worldwide despite the differences in language and background,” he said, adding, “I was proud of (my band).”
“Present: YOU” is also the boy band’s first album to include solo tracks of each of the seven GOT7 members since their debut in January 2014.
Members JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam and Yugyeom each produced their own songs: “Sunrise,” “OMW,” “Made It,” “My Youth,” “Nobody Knows,” “Party” and “Fine,” respectively.
Mark’s “OMW,” the abbreviation of “on my way,” tells his and the band’s story of growth and was written by the Taiwanese-American member while onboard a flight during the world tour.
BamBam’s “Party” features the festive mood of a party among close friends, with its music video bringing together three of the member’s best friends for the filming.
After five years in the K-pop scene, the band is seeking to earn the nickname “everybody’s idol” for its contribution to making K-pop heard across the globe, member Youngjae noted.
