Hanbok coming to Academy Awards
By the Korea Times Los Angeles staff
The Academy Awards’ Diors and Valentinos will be joined by a hanbok — Korean traditional dress — this Sunday.
According to Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles Wednesday, Mok Plus CEO Mok Eun-jung will attend the ceremony in a hanbok alongside a Hollywood actress.
Last year, Mok dressed actress Sharon Farrell in a hanbok to attend the award ceremony.
On Friday, a hanbok fashion show will take place inside Beyond the Stars Palace in Hollywood.
The show, overseen by Hanbok Advancement Center and directed by Mok, will comprise two parts and introduce 20 hanboks in both traditional and contemporary styles.
A source from the center said the fashion show is intended to introduce Korea’s hanboks to people from the film industy.
“We set up the show to strengthen Hallyu and spread the beauty of hanbok to the world,” the source said.
