Hur Mi-jung earns first LPGA win in 5 years
Hur Mi-jung picked up her first LPGA Tour win in five years on Sunday in Alabama, taking the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic with a tournament record score.
The 24-year old South Korean shot a final round of 6-under 66 for a four-round total of 21-under 267 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville, Alabama. Stacy Lewis, the world No. 1, was a distant second at 17-under.
Hur had last won on the tour in 2009 Safeway Classic. This is her second win on the tour.
Hur began the final round tied at the top with Paula Reto and played the front nine at 2-under. Lewis got within one-shot of Hur with her fifth birdie of the day at the 10th hole, but that’s as close as she would get.
Hur immediately responded by picking up a birdie on the 11th and two more on the 13th and 14th, building a three-shot lead.
Lewis made her last birdie of the day on the 13th, and Hur held a four-shot lead heading into the final hole. She made an easy par to wrap up the victory.
