Jang Geun-suk’s agency fires back
Says the company, not the actor, was involved in the tax evasion investigation, and the reports are untrue.
The agency of actor Jang Geun-suk, 28, stated Wednesday the company, not the actor, was involved in the tax evasion investigation.
It is untrue that Jang — who was reported Tuesday to have paid a fine of about $10 million to South Korea’s National Tax Service for tax evasion on billions of won from earnings in overseas activities — underwent investigation, Tree J Company said in a press release, according to Yonhap.
Tree J said it paid a fine after an error was found during a periodical investigation by the tax service.
“In regards to taxes, Jang Geun-suk has properly paid up until now,” Tree J said. “We deeply regret that untrue reports have severely damaged the actor’s image.”
Jang is the sole talent managed by Tree J Company, which was set up in 2009.
Tree J told Yonhap reports of the fine totalling about $10 million are untrue and that it considered filing for libel but decided against it for the sake of a new television variety program starring Jang that will air this week on tvN.
According to authorities, the Seoul Regional Tax Office launched an investigation on Jang and an entertainment company president, another Jang, for five to six months beginning last June.
