Japanese original of Honey Butter chips arrives in LA
April 9, 2015
Still haven’t tried the fabled Honey Butter chips?
Their precursor, a snack called Happy Butter chips by Japanese manufacturer Calbee, has arrived for sale in Los Angeles’ Korean markets.
A representative for H Mart in Koreatown’s Madang Plaza said Haitai’s crazed-about chips — which experienced explosive popularity in South Korea last year, bags going as far as fetching $50 a pop on eBay — were inspired by Happy Butter and taste similar.
The market allows purchases of two bags per person.
