Jjawang ends Shin Ramen’s 25-year reign as top-selling instant noodle
Move over, Shin Ramen. There is a new king of instant noodles in South Korea.
Launched in April 2015 by Nongshim, Jjawang (“the king of black bean noodles”) has taken over South Korean households and ended Shin Ramen’s 25-year reign as the top selling instant noodle in the country.
Nongshim just out-did themseleves. Jjawang is the latest addition to the successful and flavorful list of products from Nongshim, already known for hit items such as Shin Ramen, Neoguri and Jjapagetti.
The newcomer is described as a premium item thanks to its thicker noodles and a sauce that is estimated to be the closest to the authentic taste of Jjajangmyeon, or black bean noodles.
In just one month, Jjawang sales have reached 10 billion won, or about $8.9 million, surpassing the sales of its predecessor Shin Ramen. From mega retail outlets to the small convenience store at the corner of the street, Jjawang’s sales keep rising.
The success of the new king, along with the sales soar, are highly attributed to various advertising promotions from Nongshim, including an appearance on “Infinite Challenge,” one of Korea’s most-watched variety shows, and through SNS, from blog articles to Facebook and Instagram.
In Korea, “food trends” will come and go. The next few months will tell if the new king can keep his crown or if he will lose his head.

yes..I like the basic concepts behind Second Life but it seems incredibly outdated and when I played it was intensely non-intuitive / user friendly to an extent that made EVE look like a game for toddlers. thanks from
