K-pop stars rally to support wildfire victims
K-pop artists are making significant contributions to wildfire relief efforts as the country struggles to contain its worst wildfire disaster that has already claimed dozens of lives.
BTS’ Jungkook donated 1 billion won (US$681,500) to aid wildfire disaster relief, according to the Korea Disaster Relief Association on Friday.
The donation will be used to assist wildfire victims who have lost their homes and to support firefighters who have been battling the flames for days under harsh conditions.
“I hope this can provide even the smallest help to those who are exhausted and enduring difficult times,” Jungkook said.

G-Dragon, leader of iconic K-pop group BIGBANG, also donated 300 million won, his agency, Galaxy Corp, said.
“I sincerely hope that helping hands stay with those who lost their homes in an unexpected disaster,” he said through his agency.
They have joined a growing list of K-pop artists offering aid, including BTS’ RM, J-Hope and Suga, BLACKPINK’s Jennie, boy groups Riize and Monsta X, aespa’s Karina, rappers Jay Park and Lee Young-ji, NCT’s Mark and Doyoung, Girls Generation’s Taeyeon, and the girl group Ive, among many others.
Earlier, Seventeen donated 1 billion won to assist wildfire victims, saying, “We offer our deepest condolences to the victims and extend our comfort to those enduring these difficult times.”
The devastating wildfires, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, began last Friday. To date, the disaster has claimed 28 lives, injured 37 and forced the evacuation of approximately 38,000 people.
