Kang, Choo put together multi-hit games despite losses
SEOUL (Yonhap) — Two South Koreans in Major League Baseball enjoyed multi-hit games Wednesday, though their clubs suffered losses.
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ rookie Kang Jung-ho went 2-for-3 with a walk, extending his modest hitting streak to six games and raising his batting average to .296.
The Pirates, however, lost to their National League Central rivals the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2. The Buccos, at 65-46, have now fallen seven games behind the Cards for the division lead.
Kang hit a double in his first time up against the Cardinals’ starter Michael Wacha in the second, and then picked up an infield single to third in the fourth inning.
On the field, Kang committed his 10th error of the season, and sixth as a shortstop, when he failed to catch a sinking liner off the bat of Stephen Piscotty in the fourth.
Over in the American League, the Texas Rangers’ outfielder Choo Shin-soo went 2-for-3 with a walk, raising his average to .241.
The Rangers lost to the Minnesota Twins 11-1 and fell to 55-57.
After striking out in the first, Choo hit a double in the fourth off the Twins’ starter Mike Pelfrey. It was the Rangers’ first hit of the game.
In the sixth, Choo hit a single up the middle off A.J. Archer.
He was stranded both times, as the Rangers managed only five hits in the game.
