Kang Jung-ho extends latest hit streak to 9 games
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Kang Jung-ho continues to prove he’s worthy of a regular starting position for his club after going 1-for-4 with two RBIs Wednesday in a 5-2 win against the Miami Marlins.
He drove in Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez in the bottom of the eighth inning with a line drive single to center.
His performance extended his hitting streak to nine games during which he has batted .389 with five RBIs and two runs.
The South Korean has raised his season average to a respectable .313 after a rough start in April in which he was constantly compared to teammate and shortstop Jordy Mercer.
Mercer went 0-for-3 bringing his average below the Mendoza line to .189.
The Pirates are now on a six game win streak and will face the San Diego Padres on the road at Petco Park on Thursday.
