KBS-Hollywood collab to birth 5 K-drama remakes
Hollywood and K-drama producers are finally joining hands.
Weeks after an announcement that an American producer would remake Korean drama “Resurrection,” KBS America revealed that an additional four projects — “Full House,” “IRIS,” “Brain” and “Orange Marmalade” — will receive the same treatment, Yonhap reported.
Michael Ulsan, best known as the producer of the “Batman” trilogy, will work with KBS through his company, U2K, KBS America said Thursday.
The two companies will also co-produce a new series based on a popular Korean webtoon, “PEAK,” to air on KBS.
Uslan said Korean contents have a charm and competitive edge not possessed by American shows.
While other K-drama remake deals have been made in the past — including those for “Man From Another Star,” “Reply 1997″ and “Nine” — this is the first involving a Korean and American producer collaborating to bring new television content to life.
“This is a first step for Hallyu projects involving high-quality Korean contents and Hollywood’s foremost producer,” said Yoo Geon-sik, KBS America head.
