King Kang! Upper-decker extends hitting streak to 10 games
SEOUL, May 29 (Yonhap) — South Korean infielder Kang Jung-ho of the Pittsburgh Pirates hit a towering home run to extend his hitting streak to 10 games on Thursday in San Diego.
With two men on board and two outs in the first inning, Kang launched a bomb off of Padres’ starter Ian Kennedy into the upper deck in left field at Petco Park. It was his third homer of the season, and the first with runners on.
Kang, who entered the game hitting 5-for-14 with runners in scoring position with two outs, jumped on the first-pitch slider to keep his hitting streak alive.
Kang, who batted fifth and started at shortstop, came up empty-handed the rest of the night, striking out three times to finish 1-for-5. Kang is now batting .308 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 34 games.
The Pirates defeated the Padres 11-5 for their seventh consecutive victory.
