KJ Choi foundation grants scholarships for 100 students
By Nam Hyun-woo
The KJ Choi Foundation, run by PGA Tour golfer Choi Kyung-joo, said Monday it has granted scholarships to 100 students.
Fifty of those students won SKT-KJ Hope Scholarships ― which are co-funded by SK Telecom ― were ordinary students. The rest, who won KJ Golf Scholarships, were juvenile golfers who passed a tryout on Feb. 27.
Those who won the SKT-KJ Hope Scholarship will have their tuition fees fully funded, and the KJ Golf Scholarship will cover the cost of training and equipment with the goal of encouraging young talent to advance in the sport.
“I hope the foundation’s education program can help these students to nurture their dream and to become leaders in our society,” Choi said during an awarding ceremony on Saturday.
“The country’s economy is in a downturn, but supporting students’ dreams is a plan we can take to build for our future,” he said.
The foundation has been supporting students and young golfers for the past five years. This year’s scholarships were supported by SK Telecom, Superior, Dennis Golf, Srixon and the Community Chest of Korea, the foundation said.
