Coach Uli Stielike’s decision to insert little-known forward Lee Jeong-hyeop was right on the money.
Lee, 22, making just his fourth international appearance and his first start at Brisbane Stadium against Australia in their final Group A match of the AFC Asian Cup on Saturday, scored in the 32nd minute to give South Korea a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Son Heung-min did not play in the first half.
