Korean Air chooses InterContinental to run LA’s tallest hotel
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – British-based InterContinental Hotel Group announced today that it will operate a 900-room hotel housed in the under-construction, 73-story Wilshire Grand project. At 1,100 feet high, the $1.1 billion skyscraper project being developed Korean Air will become the tallest building in the western United States when it opens in 2017.
The hotel, which will include several floors of office space and ground-floor shops, will feature a “sky lobby” on the the 70th floor and become InterContinental’s biggest luxury hotel.
“InterContinental Hotels Resorts is IHG’s luxury brand, which we have grown to be more than twice the size of any other luxury brand globally,” Kirk Kinsell, president of InterContinental in the Americas, said. “We remain focused on building its presence in top-tier cities and resorts around the globe; and our partnership with Korean Air is very much in line with this strategy.”
Korean Air is owned by the conglomerate Hanjin International Corp., which also owns nine hotel brands, including Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites.
