Korean American arrested in Seoul for taking upskirt photos
SEOUL (Yonhap) — Police said Friday they have arrested a Korean American man for allegedly taking upskirt photographs of a woman earlier this month.
The man, identified only by his surname Kim, was caught in the act of taking unauthorized photographs under a woman’s skirt near a subway station in southwestern Seoul on June 1, said Cho Chang-bae, the chief crime investigator at Yeongdeungpo Police Station.
Kim fled after the woman noticed and screamed, but he was apprehended by a police officer who had just finished his shift and was on the scene.
“I often watch people closely on my way home since there have been similar incidents near the station,” Kang Jeong-mo, the police officer who arrested Kim, said. “I would have missed it had I arrived at the scene just seconds after.”
Kim, who barely speaks Korean, has demanded that he be allowed to return to the United States during the investigation, according to police.
Kim was not immediately available for comment and is currently not in police custody.
Cho said the police have referred the case to the prosecutors and asked them to charge Kim with violation of laws on sexual violence.
