Korean American chosen as 2015 Inspirational Teacher
A Korean American kindergarten teacher was chosen as United Way of Greater LA’s Inspirational Teacher of 2015.
Laura Park, 43, has taught at Granada Elementary Community Charter School since 1997.
She was chosen as one of UWGLA’s 25 honorees from a pool of 150.
According to UWGLA’s Facebook page, Park played a critical role in finding donations for and introducing up-to-date technology to classrooms for her students and other teachers.
“As she learns of new methods and ideas, she shares them with her teacher colleagues, initiates schoolwide and classroom-specific fundraising to purchase these new materials, and provides support to teachers who are willing to try new things,” Principal Cynthia van Houten told UWGLA.
Park finished middle school in South Korea before immigrating to the U.S. at age 15.
She and the other honorees will receive their awards March 19 at AT&T Center in Downtown Los Angeles.
