Korean American named Oakland school district Teacher of the Year
October 27, 2015
The honor of Oakland Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year has been given to Ann Park, a fifth-grade teacher at Bridges Academy at Melrose.
She was one of five teachers of the year announced by California State Superintent of PUblic Instruction Tom Torlakson Monday.
Park, who teaches writing and science, is a second-generation Korean American who graduated from UC Berkeley before earning a master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania.
“Personally it’s nice, but there are great teachers everywhere, I work with many of them,” she told OUSD. “This is about the students because when you’re meeting high expectation like this as a teacher, then your students are benefiting.”
