Korean American scholarship foundation awards $100,000
By Park Ji-hye
Fifty college students received a total of $100,000 in scholarship from the Korean American Scholarship Foundation Sunday.
Held inside the Oxford Palace Hotel in Koreatown, Los Angeles, the scholarship ceremony saw students each receiving $2,000.
KASF was founded in 1985 and aims to help students in high school, college and in masters programs. Last year, it gave $80,000 in funds to 40 students.
“I hope the students who received scholarships here today work hard to achieve their dreams and to contribute to the growth of the Korean American community,” said Eric Choi, president of the local KASF.
Students were chosen through an application process that took into account their financial need, grades, essays and recommendations.
Kim Kwang-il, a medical student at the University of California, Los Angeles, was a recipient. He said the money gave him an opportunity to develop as a leader for the next generation.
