Korean American woman dies after being struck by a van in Burbank
BURBANK (CNS) – A 76-year-old Burbank woman who was fatally struck by a delivery van while walking across a Burbank Street was identified today.
The accident occurred at Hollywood Way and Victory Boulevard at 7:24 a.m. Sunday, said Burbank police Officer Joshua Kendrick.
Violeta Hwang of Burbank died at a hospital, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The woman was walking eastbound across Hollywood Way when she was struck by a van driven by a 51-year-old Burbank man who was making a right turn from southbound Hollywood Way to westbound Victory Boulevard, Kendrick said.
Burbank police and firefighters were on the scene within minutes, Kendrick said.
“Paramedics treated the female pedestrian and transported her to Los Angeles County (USC) Medical Center. However, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital,” Kendrick said.
The cause remained under investigation, he said. Police were asking anyone who witnessed the incident or the driving of the involved delivery van to contact the Traffic Bureau at (818) 238-3100.
