Korean celebrities remember Sewol via SNS, letters
South Korean celebrities joined in on the commemoration of the first anniversary of the Sewol sinking Thursday.
Actor Kim Woo-bin wrote a handwritten letter for Kim Hye-sun, one of the Danwon High School victims who was known to be his fan.
“The place you’re at now, it’s prettier and more beautiful than the place you suffered here, right?” Kim wrote. “Thank you for being my fan. I’m so thankful you’re my fan, Hye-sun. Thank you. And we’re sorry.”
Lee Jong-suk, an actor, sent another Danwon student who died, Kwon Ji-hye, a flower basket and handwritten letter for her birthday this year, Yonhap reported.
Others took to social networking to comment, among them actresses Park Shin-hye and Jung Ryeo-won, comedian Kim Je-dong, singers Kim Jang-hoon and Im Hyung-joo, EXO member Chan-yeol, broadcaster Yoon Jong-shin and actor Lee Jong-hyuk.
“I have the thought that we need to become a country that has the faith of its citizens and our children,” Lee wrote on his Twitter.
The sinking of the ferry boat Sewol last year caused the deaths of 304 passengers.
