Korean employees have shortest holiday
By Isaac Kim
A research shows regular workers in Korea have the shortest paid vacation days when compared to other countries.
Expedia, an online tour agency, surveyed 300 domestic workers and 8,500 foreign workers in 24 different countries.
Results showed Korean workers had an average of 10 paid vacation days per year, which is the lowest throughout the world.
The global average was 21.6 days of paid vacation.
Most Korean regular workers took an average of seven days of vacation, and the overall average was 18.7 days.
On the other hand, workers in France had 30 days of paid vacation while Norway had 25 days.
Japan had an overall average of 18 days, but most took only seven days of vacation.
Most Korean workers said it was hard to take time off from work because it was difficult to avoid overlap vacation periods with co-workers (36 percent) and they had no leeway to take time off from work (27 percent).
When asked if senior workers helped with leftover work for those on vacation, only 44 percent responded, “yes.”
