Korean hit film ‘Snowpiercer’ set for June release in U.S.
The hit South Korean film Snowpiercer will be coming to American theaters on June 27.
Directed by noted South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, the picture depicts a post-apocalyptic world in which all the survivors of the world live in a moving train where a divided class system sparks rebellion.
Snowpiercer stars a string of big Hollywood names in the likes of Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer and John Hurt, as well as Korea’s favorite box office hitmaker, Song Kang-ho.
It became a hit in Korea upon its release there last year, becoming the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2013 at $59 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
The sci-fi thriller will have a limited release but retain its original uncut version. According to Indiewire, the Weinstein Company, which bought rights to the movie in 2012, had originally intended to give it a wide release with a shorter running time.
