Korean men biggest spenders in world on skin care
Korean men spend more on skin care per person than any other in the world, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
Data from Euromonitor, a market data research firm, showed that Asian males make up 64 percent of the global male skin care market.
In 2013, Asia took up $2.1 billion of the $3.3 billion global market for male skin care. In particular, China emerged as the largest market, having spent $974.8 million. The amount is expected to grow this year to $1.2 billion, the WSJ said.
South Korea, in second place, spent $635 million last year.
When it came to the amount spent per person, Korea came out on top with $25.30, which is roughly three times the amount second-ranked Danish men spent on skin care.
The market is growing thanks to advertisements by popular celebrities like Rain, the WSJ said.
While the female skin care market is about 30 times that of males, at $107.6 billion, its growth — 4.8 percent last year — is less than half that of men’s, which grew 9.8 percent.
