BREA (CNS) – The parents of a 3-year-old girl were arrested after police found the child alone in a hot minivan at the Brea Mall while her parents were inside shopping, authorities said today.

Officers were called to the parking lot at 311 Brea Mall at 4:45 p.m.Sunday regarding a small child left in a vehicle, according to a police statement.

They located a 3-year-old girl inside a black Nissan Quest minivan and were able to instruct her on how to open the doors, police said. The outside temperature was 91 degrees but the temperature inside the van measured 104
degrees, according to police.

The child was reported to have been left inside the vehicle 15 to 20 minutes. The child was taken to a hospital where she was reported in good condition, police said.

The parents, mother Ho Kim, 33, and father Tae Kim, 35, both of Fullerton, were arrested for suspicion of felony child endangerment and booked into the Brea City Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to the police statement.

Authorities warn it can be 20 to 30 degrees hotter inside a parked vehicle than outside so it is extremely dangerous to leave children or pets inside.
