Korean rapper Swings under fire for execution parody video
South Korean rapper Swings is on the receiving end of criticism over a video uploaded to his Facebook Tuesday parodying an execution.
In the parody video, Swings and another rapper, C Jamm, are seen kneeling in front of a pool. Behind them, rapper Giriboy forms a gun with his fingers and pretends to shoot; Swings and C Jamm fall into the pool face-down and float, as though they are dead.
Backlash has followed, with netizens decrying the video as a tasteless parody of ISIS, the Islamist militia group whose execution videos have continued to spur outrage since last month.
The video also follows days after the deaths of Ladies’ Code members Go EunB and Kwon RiSe, which threw the Korean entertainment industry into mourning.
JustMusic Entertainment, the three rappers’ management company, said the video wasn’t meant to parody execution.
