February 9, 2015
By Chun Ji-hoon
The oldest living Korean in Queens, N.Y., celebrated her 106th birthday Sunday.
About 200 members of the Korean Evangelical Church of New York (뉴욕한빛교회) gathered to congratulate Song Chun-hwa at a ceremony held in Corona, Queens. Those who attended prayed for her longevity and joined together in singing happy birthday.
Song is a mother to four men and three women. Including her great-grandchildren, her direct family is made up of 60 people. Her oldest son is over 80 years old, and even the youngest is not far from his 60th birthday.
Her husband was 103 years old when he passed away in 2009.
She attributed her longevity to strong faith in God and having small meals.
