L.A. Korean American community to hold nine-day memorial service
By the Korea Times Los Angeles staff
A nine-day memorial service for the victims of the ferry boat tragedy will be held by the Korean American community in Los Angeles.
Organizers said Thursday that black ribbons marked “Remember 4.16.14″ would be handed out as a sign of the community’s mourning for those lost in the incident.
The center will also collect cards with messages from visitors to be sent to Korea.
“The Sewol accident has become a source of pain for many Koreans, but we want Koreans in the U.S. to show support and love toward the victim’s families,” said Ann Park, president of the Korean Prosecutors’ Association.
The event is opened by the Global Children Foundation L.A., World Korean Voters’ Association, Korean Prosecutors’ Association, Korean American Bar Association, Korean Community Lawyers Association, Dongseo University, SignKorea, Youn’s Property and BIC Mission.
It will be held at the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles Center at 981 S. Western Ave. and at BCD Tofu at 3575 Wilshire Blvd.
The memorial, which will run from Friday to May 3, opens at 9 a.m. through 7 p.m on weekdays and to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
