L.A. Korean Consulate General to offer free passport photos in 2015
The Los Angeles Korean Consulate General will start offering free passport photos next year.
A date has not yet been set, but the new system will allow the consulate to take digital photos of passport applicants on the spot, the consulate announced Thursday.
Those applying for a passport through a traveling consul, for a temporary passport or a travel certificate will be ineligible for the new photo service.
Within the U.S., the service is already offered at three Korean Consulate Generals, having started with Atlanta in 2012 and spreading to San Francisco and Seattle.
A spokesman at the consulate said the system is currently in preparation. The consulate said it would take into account inevitably longer waiting periods due to photos being taken while preparing the system and said it would try its best to minimize visitors’ inconvenience.
