L.A. Mayor Garcetti has first official meeting in Koreatown
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti held an official meeting with Korean officials in Koreatown on Wednesday for the first time since taking office.
Among those in attendance were James Ahn, president-elect of the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles, and Song Jung-ho, director of Koreatown Youth & Community Center, as well as about 200 more prominent Koreatown figures.
The mayor introduced 12 Korean public officials, including Deputy Mayor Doane Liu and L.A. Police Commissioner Kathleen Kim, and stressed the importance of the bond between Korean society and city hall.
During his announcement of the upcoming $2.1 billion extension of the L.A. Metro’s Purple Line, Garcetti said Koreatown is emerging as the center of the city and that he would work toward improving both traffic and homeless issues.
He said he will visit Korea in November to discuss investment attraction and economic exchange.
