LA apartment puts on Korean cultural festival
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
Park La Brea Apartments in Los Angeles held a Korean festival supported by the Consulate General and the local cultural center Saturday.
Koreans make up about 25 percent of the complex’s 12,000 residents.
Festivities included an “activity center” for experiencing traditional culture, films and food, with tae kwon do and dance showcased throughout the day.
Complex residents came out for a taste of Korean cuisine, from galbi and kimbap to kimchi, japchae and rice cakes.
Kim Sung-oh, a consul official, said there had not been many chances to introduce Korean culture to apartment residents.
“I hope this was an opportunity for non-Koreans to become familiar with our culture,” Kim said.
The Korean festival was the first in a series — cultural days of Turkey, India, New Zealand, Chile and Czech Republic are coming — planned by the complex.
