LA city council candidate Ryu leads district in campaign donations
Los Angeles City Council candidate David Ryu is leading the group of District 4 hopefuls in campaign donations.
Ryu, 39, hopes to replace Councilman Tom LaBonge’s termed-out seat after the March 3 municipal election.
According to data on campaign funds by Los Angeles City Ethics Commission Thursday, Ryu had collected $313,691 in donations by Jan. 17, the most of the 14 registered candidates. He was trailed by Carolyn Ramsay, who had received $259,269.
Ryu received donations from 1,100 people, with 570 of them having given less than $100 and 150 having given $5, according to the data.
He said Thursday that although he is leading in donations, his campaign also leads in expenditures, at $147,453. The donations goal has been set at $400,000.
Ryu urged more eligible voters to register.
In District 10, where Grace Yoo, executive director of the Korean American Coalition, is running, incumbent and Council President Herb Wesson recorded $323,450 in campaign donations. Yoo had collected $21,177 from about 180 donators.
