LA Italian Cultural Institute to screen Korean film ‘Late Spring’
The Leonardo Da Vinci Film Society will screen South Korean film “Late Spring” at the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles Nov. 5.
The film, directed by Jo Geun-hyun and the recipient of international acclaim since its release earlier this year, was the recipient of two awards at the 14th Milan International Film Festival in May.
Society President Andrea Galante, who also heads MIFF, said the festival screens many South Korean films each year but that ‘Late Spring’ is a gem with perfect cinematography, music, scenario and acting talent.
The society will present an award to the film at the screening, which will be attended by cast members Park Yong-woo, Kim Seo-hyung, Lee Yoo-young and film producer Shin Jang-joong as well as former MIFF award winner and Korean American actress Sandra Oh.
Set during the Vietnam War in the 1960s, “Late Spring” is the story of a sculptor who falls ill, his last model and his wife.
In addition to winning Best Acting Performance Female and Best Cinematography at the 14th MIFF and Best Foreign Feature at the 23rd Arizona International Film Festival, the film was also invited to the 29th Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
