LA Korean Festival to focus on cultural promotion
Korean American community organizations are already gearing up for this year’s Los Angeles Korean Festival, an annual event that draws out tens of thousands to Koreatown for food, booths, culture and the crown-jewel parade.
According to the Los Angeles Korean Festival Foundation Monday, this year’s festival — now in its 42nd year — will focus on cultural promotion, with help from South Korea’s official traditional child’s play organization.
“The Los Angeles Korean Festival needs to become the city’s representative event in providing a Korean cultural experience,” said Park Yoon-sook, foundation president.
The festival’s theme this year is “becoming one through communication and sharing,” according to the foundation.
Park said plans for a program to showcase Korean history, with the help of the L.A. Korean Cultural Center, are underway.
Prizes will be given to festival attendees wearing hanbok, Korean traditional dress, Park said.
