LA sees increase in Korean citizenship renouncement
July 8, 2015
The number of Korean Americans giving up their South Korean citizenship continues to rise, according to the Los Angeles Korean Consulate General Tuesday.
In the first half of 2015, 1,088 gave up their citizenship, in comparison to 1,074 in the same period last year and 836 in the second half of 2013.
Fears of a possibility of being drafted to a mandatory 21-service in the South Korean military for male dual citizens may have been a contributor to increased numbers.
