LAPD holds fundraiser for tour to honor Nicholas Lee, Chris Cortijo
By the Korea Times Los Angeles Staff
Los Angeles Police Department officers from the Olympic division held a barbecue fundraiser Thursday to raise money to participate in a tour that will honor Nicholas Lee and Chris Cortijo.
The Police Unity Tour, which raises awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and which also collects funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum, is a 300-mile bicycle tour that will stretch from New Jersey to Washington, D.C. starting May 9.
Officers will ride in memoriam of Lee, who died in March after being struck by a dump truck while in his patrol car, and Chris Cortijo, who died in April at the hands of a driver under the influence of drugs.
An official for the Olympic division said they will participate in the tour thinking of Lee and Cortijo and that the funds raised at the barbeque will go toward supplies needed for the tour such as bicycles and gear.
