Lee Byung-hun returns to Korea, apologizes for blackmail scandal
Actor Lee Byung-hun, who faced a flurry of public scrutiny during a blackmail scandal last year, apologized upon landing in South Korea Thursday.
The 44-year-old star and his pregnant wife, actress Lee Min-jung, arrived at Incheon International Airport after an extended stay in Los Angeles, Yonhap reported.
“This situation happened because of me, so I should be solely responsible for public criticism,” Lee Byung-hun said.
He said he feels he needs to repay a debt to his family for the remainder of his life and apologized.
Lee Min-jung left with her manager while the actor spoke to press inside the airport.
Lee Byung-hun reported two women, model Lee Ji-yeon and K-pop girl group member Da-hee, to Seoul police in August last year and accused them of a $5 million blackmailing scheme involving a video of a sexually suggestive conversation held inside his home.
Lee Min-jung is due to give birth to the couple’s first baby in April.
