August 18, 2016
SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) — Lotte Cinema opened a theater inside one of its multiplexes in Seoul on Thursday for exclusively screening old and new Chinese films.
The major cinema chain in South Korea will use one of the 12 screens in its World Tower venue in Songpa, southeastern Seoul, to show Chinese flicks for a one-year period till Aug. 18, 2017. In June, Lotte Cinema signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea China Culture Center for the project.
The Silk Road Theater will mainly show Chinese classics starting with “King Of The Children” (1987) and “Life On The String” (1991), both by the world-renowned director Chen Kaige.
