Michelle Wie ends LPGA title drought
Lotte Championship win is her first in three years and eight months
By Lee Kyutae
Michelle Wie rallied from four strokes back on final round to end a long drought.
The 24-year-old Korean American shot a closing five-under par 67 to overhaul Angela Stanford for a two-shot victory on Saturday at the LPGA Lotte Championship in Hawaii. Wie finished at 14-under 274.
It’s her first in win three years and eight months, and she did it at home. It was Wie’s third career victory on the LPGA Tour, and first since taking the CN Canadian Women’s Open in 2010 — snapping a 79-event winless drought.
She had won in Mexico and Canada, but this is her first win in the United States.
Wie’s Rolex world ranking is expected to jump from 23rd to 13th.
Park Inbee rallied to finished third, one-shot ahead of Kim Hyo-joo, and Pak Se Ri tied for ninth.
