Michelle Wie falls short of winning two straight
Stacy Lewis wins NW Arkansas Championship
By Lee Kyutae
Michelle Wie went into the final round with two-shot lead at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, but she just didn’t have enough to win back-to-back titles.
After all that media frenzy after winning her first major title last week at the U.S. Women’s Open, she finally ran out of gas at Pinnacle Country Club on Sunday. Wie began with eight straight pars to lose her lead, then went spiraling down the leaderboard with three consecutive bogeys.
The top-ranked Stacy Lewis, 29, who went to University of Arkansas, fired 6-under 65 to take her third LPGA Tour victory of the year and 11th overall.
Lewis finished one-shot ahead of Lydia Ko, Cristie Kerr, and Angela Stanford at 12-under 201.
Ryu So-yeon finished fifth (10-under 203), and Wie ended up tied for eighth (8-under 205) with six other golfers, including Lee Meena and Lee Mi-hyang.
