Minzy leaves YG girl group 2NE1
SEOUL, (Yonhap) — Minzy of K-pop girl group 2NE1 has left the four-member team, her management agency said Tuesday.
“We announce that Minzy, the youngest member, will no longer be with 2NE1,” YG Entertainment said on its official blog.
YG said it had one-on-one meetings with each member in January before their management contracts with the company expire on May 5 and Minzy was the only one who showed no intent to renew her contract.
2NE1 has been inactive since its last full-length album “Crush” was released in February 2014.
YG, however, flatly denied rumors that the group’s breakup is imminent, saying its CEO Yang Hyun-suk has repeatedly shown his strong desire to keep the group afloat when he met the three other members.
“We’re preparing for the release of 2NE1′s new songs possibly this summer along with the renewal of contracts with the three remaining members,” the company said. “But we’re not considering hiring a new member to replace Minzy.”
