More than 5,000 attend Asian Job Fair

More than 5,000 crowded the L.A. Convention Center Thursday for the 3rd Annual Asian Job Fair.
Despite its name, non-Asians made up 30 percent of job-seekers and attracted the presence of over 100 prospective employers.
Among them were government agencies, including the L.A. Police Department, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Drug Enforcement, as well as companies like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Hanmi Bank, S.M. Entertainment, Nongshim and H Mart.
“We’re planning on hiring at least 10 people today,” said Brian Kim, sales manager of fashion importer GTG. “We’re looking for employees our company needs, and this is a great opportunity.”
While the turnout of non-Asians last year was about 10 to 20 percent, the number increased this year to 30 percent, said Brandon Lee, president of Job Korea. Those in attendance included college students and recent graduates to out-of-towners from as far as Seattle.
Lee said the fair will result in about 1,000 jobs for seekers.
The event was held by the Korean Chamber of Commerce in L.A., supervised by Job Korea and sponsored by The Korea Times and Radio Seoul.
