Muralist Dave Young Kim honored by Asian Pacific American Heritage Foundation
A Korean American muralist, Dave Young Kim, was recognized by the Asian Pacific American Heritage Foundation Sunday for its annual award alongside two others.
Kim, 35, who is based in San Francisco, hails from Los Angeles and has painted Korean culture onto public walls for years.
The artist, whose work is featured on 15 Oakland, Calif., spots, many depicting his Korean and Korean American heritage through iconic figures, is currently working on several more projects with a theme on Korean tradition.
Kim’s murals are painted around the world, from U.S. cities to South Korea, Norway and Mexico.
He told the Korea Times that, in order to plan the future, we must understand the past and where we come from.
The rise of Hallyu is a confirmation of the excellence of Korean culture, Kim said. He said he hopes Koreans love their culture more and feel prouder of it.
