Musicians gather to celebrate Comfort Women Day
Musicians from South Korea and the Korean American community are coming together for a concert to celebrate Comfort Women Day, designated by the city of Glendale in 2011.
The concert, set to unfold inside Alex Theatre in Glendale Saturday, will see baritone Choi Hyun-soo, tenor Lim San, soprano Lee Eun-sook, as well as Dosan Philharmonic Orchestra and Peniel Chorale.
Dancers from Jung Im Lee Korean Dance Academy and the Ogwangdae, from Glendale’s sister city Goseong, South Korea, will also perform.
“I’m thankful to be able to lend my talents to help the former comfort women,” said Lim. “We’re planning on going with bright, familiar, future-oriented songs for those who come out.”
Glendale is home to a comfort woman statue that is a replica of one that sits outside the Japanese Embassy in Seoul.
