N. Korea spurns invitation to World Water Forum
North Korea has declined to take part in the 7th World Water Forum to be held in South Korea next month, an official here said Tuesday.
The South’s government tried to deliver an invitation to the North on Monday via the truce village of Panmunjom, but it refused to receive it, according to the unification ministry official.
“The North did not clarify the reason,” he told reporters on background.
The forum is the largest international water event in the world. It’s held every three years.
This year’s forum is scheduled to open April 12 for a five-day run in the South’s two southern cities of Daegu and Gyeongju.
In February, the South sent an invitation to the North through a related international organization. Pyongyang had not responded to it.
