New rap competition show enters TV popularity chart
SEOUL, Aug. 9 (Yonhap) — The latest edition of an all-female rap competition program appeared on a TV popularity chart in its first broadcast late last month, data showed Tuesday.
For the week of July 25-31, “Unpretty Rapstar Vol. 3″ scored 207.5 points, ranking 16th on the Content Power Index (CPI) that measures TV show popularity based on the number of views of related news stories, keyword searches and mentions on social media.
In Season 3, 10 female rappers, including Miryo of Brown Eyed Girls and Ha Ju-yun of the now-disbanded girl group Jewelry, have to battle it out to become the lead rapper on tracks that will later be compiled into an album at the end of the show.
Viewers are still divided over the latest edition, with some posting complaints that it falls short of Seasons 1 and 2.
Topping the index was the SBS medical drama “Doctors,” which scored 274.4 points to take back the spot from the MBC sci-fi series “W.”
“W,” which stars Lee Jong-suk as a cartoon hero who goes back and forth between the real world and the virtual world of a webtoon, fell to second place with 256.5 points.
“Infinite Challenge,” an all-time favorite variety show, came in third with 253.2 points, trailed by the new dance competition program “Hit the Stage” in fourth place with 243.4 points.
Despite its star-studded cast, the KBS romance “Uncontrollably Fond” dropped two places further to rank fifth. Kim Woo-bin plays an arrogant singer-actor who falls again for his high school sweetheart and documentary producer played by Bae Suzy.
CPI was developed by entertainment company CJ E&M and media ratings company Nielsen Korea.
