NJ Koreans seek to install Korean Vietnam War veterans memorial
By The Korea Times New York staff
Overpeck Park in Palisades Park, New Jersey, may soon welcome a new memorial for Korean Vietnam War veterans.
Kim Chun-soo, president of the New Jersey branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association Korea, told the Korea Times Monday that they are in talks with local county government officials and politicians to bring the memorial to life.
If approved, the memorial would serve to remember the sacrifices of Korean soldiers during the war.
The New Jersey branch has a $100,000 to $200,000 project plan in place.
The proposed site of the park is currently undergoing construction. Once finished, the county expects the area to help increase foot traffic of locals visiting the park.
“The memorial would help locals understand that Korean and American soldiers fought side-by-side as brothers in the war and give second-generation Korean Americans something to be proud of,” Kim said.
