NorCal Koreans make free kimchi for local elderly
A Northern California charity organization will hand out 500 jars of kimchi to local elderly this fall.
Inside a Santa Clara kimchi factory Sunday, 35 volunteers spent hours making the Korean staple dish. The effort is in its fourth year.
“We’re planning to give kimchi to senior organizations and elders at senior apartments in the Bay Area,” said Yoon Seo-young, president of JABI Charity Association. “I hope our small efforts can become a source of warmth.”
Volunteers came from a handful of local Korean American groups.
The association said that, if contacted, it would distribute free kimchi to elders outside organizations and apartments.
JABI is also planning to deliver essentials — underwear, socks — to elders for the holiday season.
