NY hairstylists provide free haircuts to seniors
Seven hairstylists visited Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York Tuesday to provide free services to about 70 seniors gathered at the center.
Hailing from the city’s Korean American Beautician Federal organization, volunteers come out every month to give seniors free haircuts.
Both volunteers and seniors were in high spirits inside a laughter-filled room.
“You look 10 years younger,” one volunteer told a male senior after a trimming.
“Are you saying I’m only 30?” He joked.
One female senior said she couldn’t express enough gratitude to volunteers for trying their best with the work despite it being a free service. The organization prepared rice cakes and fruit for the event in celebration of the New Year.
The beautician organization has visited KCS for 13 years.
“I had no idea how beautiful volunteering was before visiting KCS through the organization,” said Park Eun-young, former president of Beautician Federal. “Today, I’m leaving with a heart full of love again.”
