The New York Senate passed a bill Monday designating the month of May as Korean American Family Month.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Tony Avella, has been passed over to the House.
In Korea, May is “family month,” with Children’s Day on May 5, Parents’ Day on May 8 and Teachers’ Day on May 15.
More than 153,000 Korean Americans live in New York, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.
“The State of New York has been richer, culturally, economically and intellectually, as a result of many contributions of its vibrant Korean American community,” the bill reads.
