NY senior citizens group delivers rice to needy
By The Korea Times New York staff
A New York Korean American senior citizens group is sharing goodwill this Chuseok — Korea’s moon festival — by delivering rice to the needy.
Homeless shelters, churches and community centers received 1,500 bags of rice Thursday — about $20,000 worth — from the organization’s Flushing office.
The effort, sponsored by the Korea Times, was helped along by local Korean businesses.
“We started this event for the first time this year to share love and care with our needy neighbors in time for Chuseok,” said Kim Dong-sik, president of the organization. “We plan on making this into an annual event to show the Korean American community’s kindness.”
The group said it plans to deliver another 100 bags to a Harlem organization next month.
